Why We Use Brass: The Science Behind Swift Tip Grips

Swift Tip grips are precision-machined from high-quality brass—an alloy of copper and zinc selected for its proven antimicrobial properties. Scientific research, including a 2021 study published in Antibiotics, has confirmed that copper-based metals like brass effectively reduce bacterial presence on high-touch surfaces.

This antimicrobial effect, known as contact killing, occurs when bacteria come into direct contact with brass. The metal releases copper ions (Cu⁺ and Cu²⁺) that disrupt cell membranes, denature proteins, and damage microbial DNA—leading to rapid cell death.
